Photo Composition Tips/Requests

  1. People interacting on Lake Chelan:
Photos of families interacting on or near the lake in various forms are requested.  These can be at a Lake Chelan resort property, on the water, etc.  Shots that include both the land and the water are good.  Shots featuring both adults and children are preferred.
  2. Lake Chelan “beach” shots:
Either with or without people, are requested.
  3. Outdoor Recreation photos:
Hiking, biking, mountain biking, kayaking, snowmobiling, golfing, etc. (preferably composed so that the person doing the activity is clearly visible close-up, and the lake is clearly visible somewhere in the background of the photo).
  4. Scenic photography:
Orchards, wineries, mountains, lake, etc., in various seasons.  Scenic shots which include the Lake somewhere in the photo are preferred.
  5. Activities and Events photos:
Any event and activity in Lake Chelan (festivals, etc.)
  6. Street photos:
Shots that represent the uniqueness of Lake Chelan (quaint shops, restaurants, landmarks, etc.)
  7. “Artistic” photos:
Tight shots of specific elements that represent Lake Chelan (apple blossoms, grape vines, people, etc.)

Photography Tips

  1. Shoot photos around sunset or sunrise, when the light is “dynamic” rather than flat.
  2. Take lots and lots of shots of your subject or landscape, until you get get just the right moment/light/composition.
  3. When photographing people:
    - consider how the person is lit and make sure no one’s face is completely in the shadows.
    - If they’re wearing glasses, make sure they don't glare or have a sun spot on them.
    - If people are sitting, make sure legs are together or crossed.
    - Look at the big picture, not just the person. Make sure there isn't anything extraneous in the background that you don't want to show, or in the foreground for that matter (could be anything, from stray garbage to advertising material for something you don't have permission to advertise, such as a Coca Cola display, etc.).
    - Check hair and clothing – make sure buttons are buttoned, collars are lying flat, shirts aren’t hanging out, hair isn’t covering eyes, etc.
    -  Remember to get photo releases (click here).
