Wineries

The Lake Chelan Valley
has always been known for growing the best apples in the world. Now we’re branching out. The next time you visit, you’ll see 200 acres of wine grapes flowing from valley slopes toward the scenic deep-water beauty of Lake Chelan. Warm days, cool nights. The same conditions that grow delicious apples create the perfect environment for world-class wine grapes.

Across the valley, several new wineries invite visitors to relax and sample premier wines. Take tours of the vineyards. Meet the winemakers. From an old-world retreat to an intimate cottage cradled by orchard, local wineries offer something for everyone. Area wineries feature weekly entertainment, including a summer concert series with world-class performers, dinner and dessert nights, and fun events for the entire family.

This young, vibrant Chelan Valley wine scene is attracting attention from winemakers, grape growers and wine enthusiasts throughout the Northwest. We invite you to enjoy the serenity and romance of wine tasting framed by the beauty of Lake Chelan and the North Cascade Mountains.

Thirteen wineries and many vineyards within the valley support the Lake Chelan Wine Growers Association.

The Lake Chelan Wine Tour Map

Pick up a wine tour map at the Chelan Chamber of Commerce or order one on-line (click here) and spend the day visiting local wineries. There are over a dozen wineries producing and selling premium wine in the valley.

These wineries provide a varied and rich experience for both experienced and beginner wine tour enthusiasts. The wineries vary in size and architectural theme, but you’ll find hometown hospitality and a common passion to share the love of wine and winemaking at each stop. You may even have the opportunity to meet the owners and resident winemakers.

Tour maps are also available at individual wineries and at the Lake Chelan Wine Cellar in downtown Chelan, a business which features only wines grown in the Columbia Valley.

Tsillan Cellars overlooks beautiful Lake Chelan on the south shore, just one mile from Chelan. Designed in the style of an Italian country retreat, this spacious winery (named after an old spelling of Chelan), offers a unique destination experience. Owner Dr. Robert Jankelson has worked for four years to recreate the romantic feel of old-world Tuscany at Tsillan Cellars. The winery’s impressive tasting room and winemaking facilities reflect his commitment to detail and elegance. Building materials came from across the globe.

Outside, three waterfalls form an amphitheater backdrop for an island stage. Natural stone bridges, Tuscan columns, a 35-foot bell tower with a 650 lb cast bronze bell, landscaped rockeries and gardens overlook Lake Chelan and the Cascade Mountains. The 135-acre estate is the perfect setting for the winery’s summer concert series featuring world-class performers. See the winery's website for a complete listing of concerts.

The Vin du Lac winery sits on a hilltop rising 200 feet above Lake Chelan, with superb views of the lake, Chelan Butte, and the town of Chelan.  The grounds have been orchard land since the 1920's, and one half of the property remains working orchard.  Seven acres of vineyard were planted in the spring of 2002.

The winery itself is housed in two old orchard sheds that were fully remodeled and updated to serve as modern winery production facilities.  Remnants of the buildings' former character remain, including the hand-laid stone foundation of the barrel room, which bears the inscription "Sept. 1937".

The old orchard farmhouse, built in the twenties, has also been updated, and now serves as the winery tasting room.  It has been styled after a French country bistro, and besides our broad selection of wines, inside you will find a unique selection of meats, cheeses, breads, olives, french baguettes, and other delicious items to enjoy with a glass of wine on the adjacent lake-view patio.

The setting of the winery, nestled amongst vineyard and orchard, is serene and romantic.  The ambiance is both old world and country.
